Superpowers and beer snobbery

The good news is that my Sylar costume came together pretty well; it will look even better tonight, now that I've got more stubble. (Hindsight: I wish I'd let my hair grow out for another week.) The bad news is that exactly no one got it: none of the guests at Amelia's party said they watched Heroes.

That party was pretty interesting. I'd expected this to be the Halloween party for our group of friends, but with the obvious exception of Amelia, neither Jenna nor I knew anyone there. Still, all the strangers were universally friendly. And this may be my imagination... but did we actually see a girl juggling fire in Amelia's backyard?

We'd arrived late, partially due to my usual lack of Minneapolis-sense, but also because we'd spent the last couple hours at the Town Hall Brewery, which was having a 10th anniversary extravaganza. Nothing against Amelia's party, but I'd been wanting to go all week and so this was the highlight of my night.

The beers were fantastic — both the pumpkin and honey beers were head and shoulders above any I'd had before in those styles — and I suspect we would have stayed even longer had the outdoor seating area stayed tolerably warm. I'm already daydreaming about visiting that place in the spring: sitting outdoors, eating jalapeno-and-cheese–stuffed pretzels, drinking tasty beers. Ah.

(To the half-dozen other people I told about this: you should have come.)

One last item, to be filed under Odd Coincidences: to approximate Sylar's hair, I used a jar of wax I'd been saving for a future costume party. I've been holding onto that thing since sophomore year, when I received it secondhand, but last night was the first time I'd ever had occasion to use it. And who should I run into at Town Hall? None other than Luke, the Lawrentian who gave me that jar so many years ago.

Not nearly as much as I hate barbers
And still craving sweet and sour pork
Also, I beat the game on Legendary this weekend
No Minneapolis-sense whatsoever

Only my absence could've made it girlier
